X Topic Abstract

Most data scientists invest heavily in strengthening their analytical and technical skills (latest ML algorithm, newest feature engineering technique…etc.) while paying little attention to working effectively within the ecosystems of their organizations. In this talk I will focus on the challenges and opportunities data scientists face and how to unlock value for themselves, their colleagues, and their organizations.

X Topic Abstract

What is streaming? Why streaming matters? How to evolve the analytics from batch to real-time ?

Speaker Profile

Anu is a Customer Engineer in Google. Her specialty is Data and Analytics. She has around 10 years of experience in Technology space, mainly in BigData and Cloud.

X Topic Abstract

Chatbots are one type of AI-based technology that builds on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing algorithms. Chatbots have been widely deployed for Customer Care purposes to decrease call center operations cost while improving the customer experience and by developing new revenue streams through evidence-based purchase decisions. The chatbot can also be leveraged as an internal virtual assistant deployed on enterprise channels, such as HR or IT HelpDesk, to improve Employee Productivity. In this talk, you will see how Newcomp's AI team helped a client to build, train, and deploy their own chatbot from the ground up.

Speaker Profile

Xiaojun Su is a Senior Data Scientist at Newcomp Analytics and leads the data science team to deliver machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions for clients across diverse industries such as energy and gas, retail, hydroelectric power, government and education, healthcare. She is passionate about new trends and how businesses can leverage new technologies to tackle real challenges. Aside from work, Su joins mentorship programs to help new graduates pursue their careers in data science.

X Topic Abstract

Advanced Analytics and AI are now a part of Core Strategy for Business Functions in Bank to make them even more effective. However there are many challenges on the way to establish the AI for these functions - the journey really starts from foundation analytics and eventually move towards advanced analytics and then AI. In this presentation, I would touch on the process to engage the function, identify and prioritization framework for analytic use cases, execution and deployment strategy for the build analytic solution. I will share the different types of analytics such as descriptive, predictive, NLP and Machine Learning. I will share some good example where these simple analysis has made huge business impact.

Speaker Profile

Nitesh Soni is a Director at Scotiabank where he is leading end-to-end advanced analytics and AI projects for Corporate Functions. His career spans over 15 years across top tier banks, consulting firm and world leading research institutes with a core expertise in Predictive Modeling, Machine Learning, AI and Big Data. He is a regular speaker at the various national and international conferences. While as a researcher, he has been a part of couple of major discovery experiments and has won few prestigious awards. He holds a PhD degree in Experimental Particle Physics.

Speaker Profile

A consummate data & analytics professional, Vivek has 14+ years of solid international experience across geographies (Canada, Vietnam and India) in building & managing high-performing hugely recognized decision analytics teams resulting in substantial financial impact. Vivek has expertise in key drivers of data-driven organization namely: data governance, data management, BI and analytics/AI with a keen eye on deriving maximum value out of data.

Most recently, he served as Director, Enterprise Data Governance at 3 rd largest bank in Canada - The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank). He set up the data governance capabilities for the bank including frameworks, policies, standards and spearheaded an innovative data risk measurement and reporting mechanism.

Within one year of joining Scotiabank, Vivek received “Best of the Best 2019” award for outstanding contribution to the bank and significantly exceeding expectations of the management.

X Topic Abstract

The onset of social media sparked unprecedented growth of the social-interactions data. With the rapidly growing data, the social networks have quickly became a prominent subject of research. Since then, social networks analysis has been successfully utilized across various domains of industry, spanning from merchandizing, through telecommunication, to defence sector.

The social networks are often defined as a structures composed by a nodes representing various social actors, typically individuals or organizations; and edges representing interactions between these actors. The most common tasks in analysis of such networks traditionally included identification of the most prominent network nodes, or detection of closely connected communities; which were usually handled with tools provided by mathematical theory of graphs.

However more recently, analysis of social networks has shifted more towards predictive analytics. A new kinds of tasks have emerged, such as forecasting the future social interactions, or estimation of the hidden properties of nodes and/or edges. To tackle these, various types of machine learning algorithms have recently been successfully applied to analyze the social networks.

In this talk we will first introduce fundamentals of social networks. We will demonstrate the utilization of unsupervised and supervised learning as a key tools of advanced social networks analytics. We will also highlight the growing relevance of this technology and exemplify its application across the industry sectors. Finally, we will outline the field’s future perspectives.

X Topic Abstract

Transfer learning has been successful when a small dataset pertaining to a target population can benefit from the learning of an algorithm that was completed on a larger, distinct data set. For example, in segmentation of prostate gland diffusion weighted MRI images from different devices, fine tuning of an algorithm trained mainly on data from one device, with a small dataset from the target device, has seen some recent success. This talk presents work exploring whether transition learning is effective between different skin lesion types, for segmentation algorithms, namely between Melanoma and Hyperpigmented lesions.

The three major chromophores of the skin, melanin, hemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin are common to the two lesion types, but the boundary and shape properties can differ.

X Topic Abstract

Applying machine learning to capital markets data using cloud computing to create and visualize actionable analytics.

X Topic Abstract

AI, ML and related technologies continue to demonstrate impressive potential to transform lives and work across multiple facets of our industry and society. While there exists great interest in AI technologies within financial services, their practical application requires diligent human oversight.

X Topic Abstract

(Chatbots and Text analysis)
50% of customer calls go unresolved or require escalation.
70% of consumers will choose messaging over calling.
91% of unsatisfied customers will not return to a business.

Businesses are leveraging AI in customer care to build a much better experience for their customers in different industries. This varies from use cases of customer support with virtual assistants to being able to extract insights from unstructured textual complaints or messages. IBM has worked with many of our customers to infuse AI using Watson technologies in customer care. With our methodologies for innovation we encourage every business to find a small critical use case and build on top of that.

X Topic Abstract

Whether dealing with longitudinal data from customer journeys, where 100 of millions of points are processed to detect key outcomes (often unbalanced), or dealing with macro-economics time-series with as few of 100s of samples, augmentation methods can have a significant impact on performance on non-linear modelling and supervised learning. We highlight recent advancements in GAN, FFT-based and other methodologies.

Speaker Profile

Mr. Ben Zion works in the industry in a different position as a data scientist. Currently, Mr. Ben Zion is the Director of AI Research in CerebriAI.
